How banks sell embedded finance

Banks now sell embedded finance as a product line of their own. The rest of the index counts which banks fintechs disclose. This page records what each bank says it sells, to whom and through which channel, in its own words and with its own sources.

7
Transaction banks
Large commercial banks selling treasury, payments and account APIs that their corporate and platform clients embed into their own software. Embedded finance as a defence of the operating account.
9
Sponsor banks
Chartered banks that lend their licence, balance sheet and card BINs to fintech programs. The bank owns the regulatory risk; the fintech owns the customer.
3
Infrastructure banks
Banks built API-first, with no branch network to protect, that sell regulated accounts, clearing and payment rails to payment companies and fintechs as infrastructure.

ABN AMRO2 buyers
ABN AMRO Embedded Finance ↗

ABN AMRO frames embedded finance as bringing the bank closer to end users: platform providers get integrated products so their business customers never switch to a bank app. Its flagship is B2B Pay Later, built with Two.

BBVA1 buyer
BBVA Embedded Finance ↗

BBVA treats embedded finance as an API-driven corporate banking play: financing, treasury and payments placed inside partners' platforms and SME workflows by a dedicated team that co-develops each partnership. Its earlier US BaaS business, BBVA Open Platform (2018), went with the US bank sold to PNC.

Citi9 buyers
Citi Banking as a Service ↗

Citi Services sells embedded finance as platform plays for e-commerce companies, fintechs and marketplaces, built on virtual accounts. It pairs them with Spring by Citi and Payments Express so a platform can accept, hold and pay out funds with one bank, and says the model is designed not to compete with its clients' core business.

Citizens Embedded Payments ↗

Citizens pitches embedded payments as a dedicated bank for US payments companies that move or hold money on behalf of their customers. It leads with a white-glove partnership model and a dedicated embedded payments team, not self-serve tooling.

Goldman Sachs Transaction Banking5 buyers
Goldman Sachs Transaction Banking (TxB) · since 2020 ↗

TxB presents itself as an API-first, cloud-native transaction bank for the modern treasurer. Embedding payments into clients' software is a stated use case through virtual accounts, the payments API and Modern Treasury, but Goldman no longer markets a standalone embedded-finance or BaaS product.

J.P. Morgan29 buyers
J.P. Morgan Payments Embedded Finance ↗

J.P. Morgan sells embedded finance as a single-provider, end-to-end suite: marketplaces and platforms onboard users and accept, hold and pay out funds without leaving the platform. Its pitch is the stability of a bank with the flexibility of a technology company.

Santander4 buyers
Ebury Connect (Santander group) · since 2025 ↗

Santander has no bank-branded BaaS product. It embeds through group businesses: Ebury Connect puts cross-border payments and FX into corporate ERPs and fintech products, Getnet Platforms (PagoNxt) sells payments-hub and SWIFT infrastructure to other institutions, and Santander CIB exposes payment APIs.

Banking Circle15 buyers
Banking Circle · since 2013 ↗

Banking Circle is a Luxembourg-licensed bank that sells only to regulated financial institutions, not consumers. It pitches central-bank clearing access and APIs as the fix for an outdated payments back end, and now covers tokenised money alongside fiat.

ClearBank Embedded Banking · since 2017 ↗

ClearBank launched in 2017 as the first new UK clearing bank in over 250 years. It lets regulated firms launch branded accounts without becoming a bank, and promises no proposition overlap with its clients. It now also runs an EU entity supervised by DNB.

Column24 buyers
Column ↗

Column presents itself as a nationally chartered bank built for developers to build and fund financial products. Its argument is vertical integration: it runs its own hardware with direct connections to the Fed, TCH and Swift, so builders don't depend on middleware.

How to read it

The buyer count is the index’s evidence, the profile is the bank’s claim
The number on each card counts analysed companies that disclose the bank somewhere in their stack. That is the same count as on the bank’s vendor page. Sponsor banks score high because US fintechs must name their bank in a legal footer. Transaction banks score low even when they claim dozens of live partners, because corporate treasury relationships are rarely published. A low count is a disclosure gap. It does not show that the product is failing.
Direct APIs versus middleware
Banks that run their own developer platform sell to the platform directly. Others reach fintechs through a BaaS middleware layer that aggregates several banks behind one API, which makes the bank interchangeable to the end customer. After the 2024 consent orders, sponsor banks moved toward direct relationships so they can see the programs they are accountable for. The sponsor-bank leaderboard ranks banks by the buyer side.
Sources
Every stance, quote, capability and claim comes from the bank’s own pages or press releases, linked on its vendor page (citizensbank.com, jpmorgan.com, services.citi.com, goldmansachs.com and others). Claims such as volumes and partner counts are reported as the bank states them. The index has not verified them.
