Danske Bank is a 150-year-old Nordic incumbent, not an embedded-finance startup — it operates as the largest bank in Denmark plus a top-5 bank across Sweden, Norway, Finland and Northern Ireland. Post the 2018 AML scandal, strategy has focused on compliance investment (joint Nordic KYC utility), digital rails (ISO 20022 file integrations, PSD2/UK Open Banking APIs via a public developer portal), and — most recently — an accelerated AI push via AWS to modernise operations and expand wealth management.
