Embedded finance in October 2026 so far

112 developments from 95 companies, with the month still running: 8 acquisitions, 6 funding, 60 partnerships and integrations, 18 launches, 8 licences and regulators, 12 other developments.

Ramp raised $1.85B at a $60B valuation and bought treasury platform Vesto the same month, while Valley National Bancorp agreed to buy Bluevine for about $340M, a deal that brings roughly $2.1B in deposits and 175,000 small-business customers. Across sections, two threads kept showing up: AI agents getting their own balances, cards and payment permissions, and stablecoins moving into card issuing, payouts and bank settlement.

Acquisitions 8

Valley National Bancorp agreed to acquire Bluevine for about $340M (75% cash, 25% stock), expected to close in early 2027 pending regulatory approval. Shares completed its purchase of 100% of Treezor from Société Générale, taking ownership of its 25-country passport and card issuing. Cross River agreed to buy wallet and rewards provider Accrue, Ramp bought Vesto, Anchorage Digital bought payout layer Routable, and Personio made Circula its largest acquisition.

Our take

Buyers chose to own infrastructure rather than rent it: Shares now holds Treezor's licences, Cross River adds wallet tech for its clients, and Anchorage pairs a federal digital asset charter with a payout network reaching 1M+ payees. The Bluevine deal is the one to watch, since it is not yet closed and depends on regulators.

Oct 20

CRB Group, parent of Cross River Bank, agreed to acquire Accrue (Accrue Money, Inc.), adding its branded wallet, stored value, and loyalty rewards technology to Cross River's embedded finance platform so clients can build their own wallets. Accrue's team joins Cross River; founder and CEO Michael Hershfield takes a leadership role building out its embedded finance offerings. Terms not disclosed; subject to customary closing conditions.

Combined group targets €100M revenue by 2027.

Oct 5

Acquired Routable, the payout layer between a company's ERP and payment rails — serving 1M+ corporate payees across 220 countries. Routable's founders (Omri Mor, Tom Harel) join Anchorage Digital, which contributes its regulatory oversight (federally chartered digital asset bank) to the combined entity.

Valley National Bancorp entered a definitive agreement to acquire Bluevine for approximately $340M (75% cash, 25% Valley common stock) — expected to close in early 2027, pending regulatory approval. Bluevine brings ~$2.1B in low-cost, digitally-sourced deposits (35% CAGR 2023-Q2 2026), 175,000 small-business customers, and 180 staff including a Tel Aviv tech team. Not yet closed.

Funding 6

Ramp raised $1.85B at a $60B valuation on $2B+ annualized revenue, 85,000+ customers and $275B+ in annualized purchase volume, up 175% year on year. Erebor Bank is raising $1.5B at an $8B pre-money valuation after deposits hit $7B, because its charter's leverage ratio requires about $900M in capital against $597M held in June. Smaller rounds went to finmid (€17M extension, €52M total) and Ryft (£20M Series B).

Our take

Ramp says most customers use two or more products, which points to bundling as the revenue source. Finmid's capital is tied directly to distribution deals with Bolt and Skroutz. Erebor's raise is a balance-sheet requirement, not a growth bet: it still has no lending book.

Oct 15

Raised $1.85B at a $60B valuation. As of 2026-10-01: $2B+ annualized revenue with positive cash flow, 85,000+ customers (from ~50,000 a year earlier), $275B+ annualized purchase volume (+175% YoY), customers saving $1B+ a month, median customer saving 7.5% (from 5%); most customers use two or more Ramp products.

Deposits reached $7B (up from $4B in June, $1.1B in March), with $3B added and 500+ new customers in the latest quarter (average new account size ~$6M). Raising $1.5B at an $8B pre-money valuation — its charter's 12% leverage ratio requires ~$900M in capital against a $7B balance sheet, against $597M held as of June. Still holds no lending book; deposits sit as cash reserves at the Federal Reserve.

Partnerships and integrations 60

Agent payments drew the most deals. Stripe's Link balance, held as stablecoins on Tempo, went live in the Instinct agent, Anthropic put Link and the Stripe MCP server into Claude Duet, Sierra agents take card payments mid-call via Stripe, and Billtrust, Visa and BILL piloted agent-initiated invoice payments. Stablecoin rails also spread: Mastercard launched the Global Money Platform with BVNK, Marqeta and Coinbase plan stablecoin-backed cards, Fiserv went live with Bank of North Dakota's Roughrider Coin, and Tempo carries Tala's USDT loans in El Dorado. Banks also put others' products under their own brand, with PNC Payroll by ADP, Chase Payroll on Gusto, Lloyds insurance from Superscript and SoFi term loans on Fundbox.

Our take

Bank distribution is the prize for infrastructure vendors this month: ADP, Gusto, Superscript and Fundbox all reached small-business customers through incumbent banks' apps. Several stablecoin card deals, including Marqeta with Coinbase and Stripe with Plasma, have no launch date, so they count as plans until they ship.

Stripe launched Stripe Pay, free instant B2B transfers in USD, GBP or USDC between Stripe financial accounts, which works only when both sides are on Stripe. Airwallex launched agent banking, giving AI agents funded sub-accounts and cards within set limits, and OnePay announced a similar product at Money20/20. Mercury crossed $1B in annualized revenue, up 50% and profitable for a fourth year, and Bolt and finmid extended more than €40M in vehicle financing offers to 400+ German fleets.

Our take

Airwallex launched and OnePay announced the same design, agents inside permissioned sub-accounts with card controls, but one month is too few to call that the standard model. Stripe Pay's closed loop gives businesses a reason to hold balances at Stripe instead of at a bank.

Oct 27

Kraken's Payward FZCO received a full VASP licence from Dubai's VARA covering asset management, broker-dealer services and dirham-denominated trading pairs. SBI Holdings, Mesh and Money Forward agreed to form a Japanese joint venture for on-chain settlement and crypto connectivity, pending final agreements and regulatory approval.

Our take

Kraken's VARA licence and its link to Singapore Gulf Bank's real-time clearing network for institutional clients in Asia and the Gulf both point the same way: Kraken is building a Gulf base.

Erebor Bank ended free at-par USDC and USDT redemption for most customers after trading firms including Wintermute and Galaxy Digital used it to redeem discounted stablecoins at full value. DailyPay completed a second $200M asset-backed securitization, taking debt financing backed by on-demand pay receivables to about $1.4B. SME Bank rebuilt its full banking stack on Google Cloud under Bank of Lithuania supervision.

Our take

Erebor's experience shows that free at-par conversion becomes an arbitrage subsidy for any bank that offers it. Others adding stablecoin redemption will need fees or limits from the start.
