“Can Greece's dominant price-comparison engine become the financial OS for Greek e-commerce merchants and consumers?”
Skroutz began in 2005 as a Greek price-comparison engine. In 2018 the founders bought back DIONIC's 50% stake and consolidated control. The company then evolved from pure comparison into a full marketplace with its own intermediated checkout ('Skroutz Basket'), and from 2025 onward moved aggressively into embedded finance — launching a co-branded credit card with the National Bank of Greece and merchant lending through finmid — positioning itself as the financial OS for Greek e-commerce merchants alongside its marketplace.
Skroutz processes payments through EveryPay.
Skroutz's cards are issued through National Bank of Greece (co-brand issuer) on the Mastercard network.
Skroutz uses EveryPay for KYC and identity verification.
Skroutz's lending and capital products are provided by finmid, National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank, TBI Bank and Klarna.
The Embedded Finance Index 2026 maps 5 layers in Skroutz's stack: Payments / PSP (EveryPay); Card issuing (National Bank of Greece (co-brand issuer)); Card network (Mastercard); Lending (finmid, National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank, TBI Bank and 4 others); KYC (EveryPay).
Skroutz was founded by Giorgos Hatzigeorgiou, Vasilis Dimos and Giorgos Avgoustidis and is founded in 2005, headquartered in Nea Ionia, Athens, Greece.
