Xero

Can the cloud accounting ledger become the distribution hub for every embedded financial service a small business needs?

The story

Xero began as a cloud accounting platform and has progressively layered embedded finance on top of the ledger — invoice payments (Stripe, GoCardless), bill pay and FX (Wise, BILL, Melio, Crezco), embedded payroll (Gusto in the US), open banking bank feeds (Tink in IE/UK, Plaid in the US, Yodlee globally), and a lending marketplace where partners like Wayflyer and TRIVER consume Xero data. The strategic motion is to monetize the financial workflows around the ledger rather than just charge for the ledger itself.
