Spreedly

Can a single open payments orchestration layer become the universal abstraction for merchants and platforms to connect, vault, route, and optimize across the entire fragmented global gateway and payment method ecosystem?

The story

Founded in 2007 as a card-vaulting service, Spreedly pivoted in 2011 toward a fully open, gateway-agnostic payments orchestration platform. By 2014 it had launched a unified API across 140+ gateways, positioning itself as the connective tissue between merchants and the fragmented global payments stack. Its $75M raise in 2019 accelerated the buildout from tokenization/vaulting into full payments orchestration, fraud orchestration, and intelligent routing — making Spreedly infrastructure for other businesses rather than a consumer-facing product.
