“Can a single API gateway become the connective tissue between Nigeria's 20+ licensed banks and the fintech ecosystem, capturing revenue on every financial service transaction that flows through it?”
Founded in 2018, OnePipe identified a structural gap in Nigeria: fintechs with innovative products could not scale beyond ~500K users because they lacked distribution, while banks had millions of customers but couldn't deliver modern digital services. OnePipe built an API aggregation gateway that lets fintechs plug into 20+ banks and lets banks monetize their digital assets via fintech partnerships. The company expanded from pure payment switching to a broader embedded finance stack — managed wallets, credit APIs, BVN-based KYC, bill payments, account opening and direct debit via NIBSS (PayWithAccount). It is essentially the Plaid/BaaS aggregator for Nigeria, sitting between banks and developer/fintech customers.
