The story

Shopify has steadily built an embedded finance stack on top of its commerce platform, starting with Shopify Payments (powered by Stripe), extending into Shopify Capital in 2016, then Shopify Balance in 2020 as a business banking account, and Shopify Credit in 2023. The strategy is to be the single financial OS for merchants, with Stripe as the underlying rail across most products.
