The story

Founded 2010 as a UK peer-to-peer SME lending marketplace, Funding Circle IPO'd on the LSE in 2018 and became a major CBILS/BBLS government-scheme lender through COVID. In 2022 it fully retired retail P2P and pivoted to an institutional-funded model, positioning itself as an SME borrow / pay-later / spend platform: term loans + the FlexiPay line of credit (2021) + a Monavate-issued Visa credit card (2024). A marketplace layer routes borrowers it cannot fund itself to a large panel of partner lenders.
