“Can Europe's largest bank become the embedded financial infrastructure layer — acquirer, lender, insurer, and open-banking ASPSP — powering the next generation of fintech and enterprise commerce platforms across Europe?”
BNP Paribas was formed in 2000 through the merger of BNP and Paribas, consolidating two of France's largest banks into Europe's biggest bank by assets. Over the next two decades it built a diversified global franchise spanning retail banking, corporate & institutional banking (CIB), investment management and insurance via BNP Paribas Cardif. Since 2019 the group has systematically opened its infrastructure to fintechs via PSD2 APIs and strategic B2B embedded-finance partnerships — acting simultaneously as an ASPSP for TPPs, an acquirer (AXEPTA), a working-capital lender, and an insurance manufacturer (Cardif) embedded in partner ecosystems.
