“Can an African smart card manufacturer become the physical + digital identity infrastructure layer for the continent's banking, telecom, and government sectors?”
SecureID Limited is a Lagos-headquartered smart card manufacturer, not a fintech or embedded-finance platform. Founded in 2005 by Kofo Akinkugbe, it is the first Visa/Mastercard/AfriGo/GSMA-certified smart card manufacturing plant in sub-Saharan Africa. It produces the physical card stock (debit/credit/SIM/national ID) for 100+ banks and telcos across 21+ African countries — approximately 200M cards annually. It has expanded into adjacent digital identity solutions (SID Digital) and transit payment infrastructure (TPS), but it does not itself operate a regulated financial product.
