“Can a CBK-licensed mobile money PSP become the interoperable payment infrastructure layer connecting all MNOs, banks, and merchants in East Africa?”
Founded in 2018 as Viewtech Limited, the company built SasaPay as a CBK-licensed mobile money e-wallet targeting the Kenyan mass market. After receiving its PSP licence in October 2021, SasaPay expanded from a consumer wallet to a full-stack payment gateway serving merchants, agents, and developers via open APIs. The platform now positions itself as infrastructure-layer fintech — powering other fintechs, merchants, and financial institutions with interoperable mobile-money rails across Kenya, with early expansion into Tanzania.
SasaPay processes payments through SasaPay (self-operated).
The Embedded Finance Index 2026 maps 2 layers in SasaPay's stack: Payments / PSP (SasaPay (self-operated)); Lending (Lending enablement and Online loan applications).
SasaPay was founded by Dennis Githui and is founded in 2018, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
