The story

Founded in 1975 as a developer tools and OS company, Microsoft spent decades as the dominant enterprise software vendor via Windows and Office. Under Satya Nadella (CEO since 2014), the company executed a fundamental pivot to cloud computing with Azure and SaaS via Microsoft 365, transforming from a licensed-software business to a recurring-revenue cloud platform. The company has since become a major AI infrastructure player through its deep partnership with OpenAI, embedding Copilot AI capabilities across its entire product suite.
