“Can a regulated EU crypto payment gateway become the default stablecoin-to-fiat settlement rail for merchants that would otherwise never touch crypto?”
Founded 2014 in Vilnius as a crypto exchange and payment processor (UAB Virtualios Valiutos, renamed UAB Decentralized in 2020). CoinGate pivoted toward being a regulated crypto payment gateway for merchants — building out checkout, payouts, invoicing, multi-currency accounts and settlement into EUR/USD/GBP. The strategic bet of the last two years is regulatory: becoming one of the first MiCA-licensed CASPs and holding a Payment Institution license from the Bank of Lithuania in order to serve enterprise merchants that need traditional-payments-grade compliance behind their crypto rails.
