“Can a bank-owned digital account profitably serve LatAm's unbanked population — a question Santander ultimately answered 'no' by shutting Superdigital down in 2024.”
Superdigital launched as a Brazilian digital account aimed at the unbanked and semi-banked, with a mobile-first, API-first multi-country platform. It became part of Santander Group and was consolidated under the PagoNxt umbrella alongside Getnet and Ebury. Santander ultimately deemed it non-strategic, wrote it off, and shut down operations on 18 November 2024 as PagoNxt was refocused into Santander Payment Solutions around Getnet acquiring, Getnet Platforms (A2A/issuing) and Ebury.
