“Can an embedded, AI-native accounting API displace QuickBooks as the default general ledger for SMBs by living inside the vertical SaaS platforms they already use?”
Founded in 2024 by Pryce Yebesi (previously CPO of Utopia Labs, acquired by Coinbase) and Ashtyn Bell, Open Ledger emerged from stealth in January 2025 to build an embedded, AI-powered accounting API that lets SaaS platforms deliver QuickBooks-like bookkeeping inside their own products. In April 2026 the company was acquired by Collective, which plans to merge Open Ledger's API-first ledger with its bookkeeping/payroll/tax services for solo entrepreneurs.
Open Ledger runs its ledger on Open Ledger (in-house).
Open Ledger integrates with QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Zoho Books, FreshBooks, Sage Intacct, MYOB and 1 other.
The Embedded Finance Index 2026 maps 4 layers in Open Ledger's stack: Ledger (Open Ledger (in-house)); Unified APIs (Open Ledger (self)); Accounting (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and 5 others); Transaction enrichment (Open Ledger (in-house LLM)).
Open Ledger was founded by Pryce Yebesi and Ashtyn Bell and is founded in 2024, headquartered in United States.
Open Ledger has raised $3M in total (latest round: Pre-seed, 2025).
