The story

May was spun out of Groupe Up (French cooperative giant behind Chèque Déjeuner) in 2022 to attack the French employee benefits market with a modern Open Banking + AI stack. Rather than issue paper vouchers or a single-purpose card, May aggregates all 9 URSSAF-exonerated benefit categories (meal, mobility, sport, culture, gift, vacation, home services, telework, savings) into a single wallet where employees connect their bank account, and eligible spend is automatically detected and reimbursed. A card option was added later, competing with Swile, Edenred and Pluxee.
