The story

Magento was founded in 2007 as an open-source e-commerce platform and quickly became the dominant self-hosted commerce platform for mid-market and enterprise merchants. Adobe acquired Magento in 2018 for ~$1.68B and rebranded the enterprise tier as Adobe Commerce, integrating it into the Adobe Experience Cloud suite. The platform has since evolved from a PHP-based on-premise CMS to a cloud commerce platform with headless APIs, PWA Studio, and an extensive marketplace of third-party extensions—including embedded finance integrations via plugins for payments, tax, and open banking.
