“Can Rwanda's GovTech payments infrastructure — built for 100+ public services — become the dominant digital payments and services platform for all organizations, public and private, across Africa?”
Founded in 2014 as a GovTech company, Irembo built IremboGov — a platform digitizing 100+ Rwandan government services — cementing itself as the Government of Rwanda's primary digital services partner. Recognizing that its homegrown payment infrastructure was the competitive moat, Irembo commercialized it as IremboPay in 2024, opening the platform to private-sector clients and health facilities. The company is now pivoting from a single-government-contract model toward becoming Rwanda's (and potentially Pan-African) digital payments and services infrastructure layer for both public and commercial organizations.
