“Can a Canadian ERP-banking middleware become the default distribution layer between top-tier commercial banks and their mid-market clients' accounting systems?”
FISPAN was founded in 2016 by Lisa Shields (previously founder of Hyperwallet, acquired by PayPal in 2018) to package commercial-bank host-to-host and API connectivity into an out-of-the-box ERP plugin. Rather than becoming a bank or BaaS itself, FISPAN sits on the distribution side — it takes existing bank treasury products from J.P. Morgan, TD, PNC, BMO, Wells Fargo and others and embeds them inside NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Business Central, QuickBooks, Xero, and Workday for those banks' mid-market corporate clients. The 2025 Canapi Series B validated the ERP-banking wedge as banks race to defend deposit share against fintech-native AP/AR tools.
