“Can a privacy-preserving biometric identity network become the financial and identity OS for verified humans globally, routing payments, stablecoin balances, lending, and earning through a single app?”
Founded in 2019 as a biometric identity project, Tools for Humanity spent years developing the Orb hardware to provide privacy-preserving proof-of-personhood. The project launched as Worldcoin in 2023 with a crypto token (WLD) as an incentive mechanism, then rebranded to World in 2024 to emphasize its broader protocol ambitions beyond crypto. By 2025–2026 World pivoted decisively toward embedded finance, launching virtual accounts (via Bridge), a stablecoin-native financial super app (World Money), and onchain yield/lending (via Morpho) — repositioning from an identity protocol into a combined identity-plus-financial-infrastructure network for verified humans.
