Sprout Studio was founded in 2013 in Port Colborne, Ontario as a photographer-first CRM and studio management SaaS. In 2025 the company was taken over by Jake McCarthy and Ryan Welch — operators of adjacent photography brands (Freedom Edits, Freedom Print Lab, Artwork Collective) — signaling a strategy to bundle Sprout with post-production and print-sales workflows. The FlowPay launch (2025) marks Sprout's first move from third-party payment integrations toward embedded payments as a native product line, positioning the company as a vertical financial software provider for photographers rather than pure workflow software.
