The story

Founded in 2016 as a global payroll automation SaaS, Papaya Global expanded from pure payroll into embedded financial infrastructure by acquiring Azimo in 2022 — a licensed payments provider — becoming the first SaaS payroll company to operate its own regulated payments arm across five Tier-1 jurisdictions. The company then launched Banco (worker wallets, payment cards, virtual IBANs) and OnePay (a payments OS for enterprises), positioning itself as a global workforce payments platform running on J.P. Morgan and Citi banking rails. The strategic thesis shifted from 'payroll software' to 'the financial infrastructure for global workforces,' targeting enterprise and Fortune 500 customers with full compliance liability coverage.
