Opploans

Can a tech-enabled loan servicing platform — operating through bank partnerships rather than direct lending — become the dominant credit access layer for underserved American consumers?

The story

OppLoans began as a direct subprime installment lender before pivoting to a bank-servicing model ('Powered by OppLoans') under which state-chartered bank partners — FinWise Bank, First Electronic Bank, and Capital Community Bank — originate loans while OppFi provides technology, marketing, underwriting analytics, and servicing. This structure allows OppFi to operate at scale across states while the partner banks hold the credit and regulatory risk. The platform targets the roughly one-third of Americans with subprime credit scores who lack access to mainstream credit.
