“Can a single API unify all Francophone African mobile money, card, and marketplace payment rails into the de-facto payments infrastructure layer for the continent?”
Founded in 2023 in Douala, Cameroon, Nexus set out to solve payment fragmentation across Francophone Africa — where integrating MTN, Orange, Moov, and Airtel separately was a major developer burden. Within three years it expanded to 24 countries and built a modular payments infrastructure (Collections, Disbursements, Card Issuance, Nexus Flow for marketplaces) positioned as the pan-African alternative to Stripe. Its acquisition of Visa Principal Member status differentiates it from aggregator-only models by enabling white-label card programs directly for enterprise clients.
