Jpay

Can a single platform own all financial and communication services for the captive corrections market — money transfers, inmate accounts, messaging, entertainment, and reentry payments?

The story

JPay began as a money-transfer service enabling families to send funds to incarcerated individuals, then expanded into a full corrections-services platform covering email, video visitation, tablets, music, education, and parole/probation payments. Following acquisition by Securus Technologies (Aventiv Technologies), JPay operates as the embedded finance and communications layer for correctional facilities across the US and Canada. Its embedded finance angle is captive-market money movement: families fund inmate accounts via debit/credit card, funds are held on JPay-branded accounts, and inmates spend within the facility ecosystem. First Century Bank and Metropolitan Commercial Bank have been identified as banking partners supporting this infrastructure.
