“Can a project-based ERP vendor become the intelligent operating platform for every high-stakes, compliance-heavy industry without ever having to become a fintech?”
Founded 1983 as Deltek Systems, a specialist ERP vendor for government contractors and project-based professional services firms. IPO'd in 1997, went private in 2002 after the dot-com crash. Thoma Bravo took it private again in 2012 at $1.1B, then flipped it to Roper Technologies in 2016 at $2.8B — where it remains as an operating subsidiary. Today Deltek is the category-defining vertical ERP for GovCon, aerospace & defense, architecture & engineering, construction, and consulting, with 30,000 customers across products like Costpoint, Vantagepoint, Maconomy, ComputerEase, and Ajera. Embedded finance is deliberately thin: Deltek acts as the system of record and partners with third parties (Corpay for AP disbursement, Plaid for bank feeds, Ramp for spend) rather than issuing money or lending itself.
