The story

Founded in 2017 as a pure-play digital SME lender in South Africa, Bridgement was built from the ground up on AI-driven credit decisioning using live bank and accounting data rather than paperwork. Backed by Opus18 (formerly Capricorn Capital Partners) and the Yellowwoods group (owners of Nandos, Hollard, Direct Axis), the company progressively deepened its accounting-software integrations — first Xero and Sage, using Yodlee for bank feed connectivity — turning third-party data pipes into its core underwriting advantage. By 2024 it had unlocked over R2 billion in funding and expanded its product suite from a single term loan to include a revolving line of credit, invoice finance, and BridgePay trade credit, positioning itself as a full-spectrum cash-flow platform for South African SMEs.
