Founded in 2008 as a cloud ERP targeting small and mid-market businesses, Acumatica differentiated itself from legacy on-premises ERP vendors by offering true cloud deployment and unlimited-user pricing. The 2014 launch of the xRP cloud platform extended the company into a vertical ISV enablement play. After being acquired by EQT AB in 2019, the company deepened industry-specific editions (construction, manufacturing, distribution, retail) and grew to 10,000+ customers. In 2025, EQT sold Acumatica to Vista Equity Partners, continuing its private-equity ownership trajectory as it competes directly against NetSuite and Sage Intacct in the SMB/mid-market cloud ERP space.
