ServiceM8

Can a mobile-first, Apple-native field-service platform for tradespeople become the invisible admin layer — payments, AI, accounting, scheduling — so contractors only do skilled work?

The story

Founded 2010 as an iOS-first job management app for trade contractors after the founders bought a locksmith business and struggled with paperwork. Deep Apple ecosystem bet (iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch, Tap to Pay on iPhone) differentiated it from competitors like Jobber and ServiceTitan. Has progressively embedded finance features — payments via Stripe evolved from the Stripe Payments add-on into the branded ServiceM8 Pay product, adding deposits, PayTo (AU) and PayByBank (UK). Most recent evolution is AI: ChatGPT/Claude MCP integration and AI Smart Helpers across all plans.
