“Can a 150-year-old life insurer become the default embedded-insurance rail for LatAm's digital banks and marketplaces?”
MetLife has operated in Brazil since 1999 as a traditional life/pension/dental carrier (Metropolitan Life Seguros e Previdência Privada S.A., ~8M lives insured, ~21k brokers). Since 2024 the strategic bet has been MetLife Xcelerator — a LatAm embedded-insurance business unit that plugs credit-life, accident and other coverages into digital banks, e-wallets and marketplaces via APIs, following a B4B2C model. Brazil is Xcelerator's largest partner base in LatAm.
