“Can Kavak convert its dominant used-car marketplace position in emerging markets into a full vehicle-ownership financial platform — combining embedded lending, insurance, and digital financial services — to capture the entire car ownership lifecycle?”
Founded in 2016 as an online used-car marketplace in Mexico, Kavak initially focused on inspection, warranty transparency, and price standardization to formalize a fragmented market. By 2020 it became Mexico's first unicorn and began rapid geographic expansion across Latin America and into EMEA. From 2022 onward, Kavak layered in structured institutional financing (HSBC, Goldman Sachs, Santander) to fund its loan portfolio, and in 2025 formally launched Kavak Crédito — a fintech arm offering embedded auto and personal loans — marking its evolution from a marketplace into a full vehicle-ownership financial platform.
