The story

FortBrasil built an 18-year franchise as a private-label / co-branded credit card administrator serving the C/D classes in Northeast Brazil, primarily through supermarket, pharmacy and department-store partners. It expanded into digital SMB credit issuance with Credfácil in 2022. In April 2023 rival DM acquired 49.9% of the company, and completed a 100% acquisition by end of 2024. The FortBrasil brand is now being absorbed into DM Instituição de Pagamento S.A., with customers migrating to the DM Visa card — effectively ending FortBrasil as an independent issuer while preserving its closed-loop payment arrangement and retailer network.
