“Can Fastned become the dominant independent pan-European EV fast-charging network by deploying green-financed infrastructure at the highest-traffic locations before incumbent energy majors or OEM-backed networks lock in the market?”
Founded in 2012 as a pure-play EV fast-charging infrastructure operator in the Netherlands, Fastned pursued a unique mission-driven model independent of oil majors. The company listed publicly on Euronext in 2019 to access retail and institutional capital for network rollout. From 2020 onwards it systematically expanded pan-European, now covering 9 countries with 400+ stations. Its embedded finance story is primarily on the corporate side — using green bonds, retail bonds, and green loan facilities to fund capital-intensive charging infrastructure rather than building consumer financial products.
