“Can a digital-first Schedule I bank displace Canada's major banks for everyday personal and small-business banking by offering high-interest accounts, zero fees, and embedded global payments?”
EQ Bank launched in 2016 as the digital-first consumer banking brand of Equitable Bank, Canada's Schedule I challenger bank. It built its customer base around high-interest savings accounts and no-fee everyday banking. In 2025 it extended into business banking, targeting Canadian SMBs who were underserved by the major banks.
