The story

Elite is one of the oldest names in legal financial software (founded 1947), operating as Thomson Reuters Elite from 2003 until 2023. TPG carved it out from Thomson Reuters in 2023, kicking off an aggressive cloud-native rebuild — the 3E SaaS platform, embedded Elite Intelligence AI, and a native Elite Payments product. Francisco Partners agreed to acquire the company from TPG in August 2025 to continue that trajectory. The embedded-finance angle is narrow but growing: Elite Payments is a native invoice-payments feature layered on 3E, replacing the older LawPay integration.
