“Can a legacy direct-connect payment processor serve as the proprietary, cost-optimized processing backbone for a large ISO-led merchant services business?”
Founded in 1979 as a credit card and ACH payment processor, EPX grew into a tier-one direct-connect processor and acquirer serving merchants, banks, and public utilities across the US, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. In 2014–2015, EPX was acquired by North American Bancard (now 'North'), becoming its proprietary in-house processing platform. Post-acquisition, EPX functions as the backend processing and acquiring engine for North's ISO partner network, offering interchange optimization, a virtual terminal (PaymentsHub), and enabling North to compete as both an ISO and a direct processor. EPX continues to position itself as a unified platform combining ISO, acquirer, gateway, front-end, and back-end processing under one roof.
