“Can a MiCAR-regulated, multi-signature custody stack become the default white-label crypto rail for Italian and European incumbent banks?”
Founded 2015 in San Francisco as a Bitcoin wallet company, Conio became the first in Italy to ship a multi-signature (2-of-3) Bitcoin wallet, giving it a defensible security story. Strategic investment from Poste Italiane and Banca Generali pivoted the company from a pure consumer app into a white-label digital-asset infrastructure provider for Italian banks and financial institutions. Today the company runs three parallel businesses — a MiCAR-regulated retail wallet with 450k+ customers, an integrated white-label crypto stack for banks (Conio Custody + Conio Trading), and a non-MiCAR tokenization platform for Real World Assets serving corporate partnerships (Enel, Ferrari). The 2025 MiCAR license cements its position as one of the few EU-regulated CASPs able to sell into regulated banking channels.
