“Can a former instant-buyer reinvent itself as the digital financial layer (brokerage + mortgages + insurance) around Italian residential real estate?”
Casavo launched in 2018 as Italy's Opendoor — a capital-heavy instant-buyer that bought homes off owners in weeks. After raising €400M in 2022 (of which €300M was debt to fund inventory), the business retooled toward a much lighter model: an agent-led marketplace, the Doris platform for real estate agents, a mortgage brokerage arm (Casavo Mutui) that intermediates loans from banks like UniCredit, Avvera (Credem) and others, and an insurance-intermediary line. The instant-offer product still exists but is now gated to major Italian cities and specific property criteria. By 2026 press coverage the company is targeting only €50M in revenue by 2030 — a significant reset of ambition from the 2022 fundraise narrative.
