Canton Network is the public blockchain layer spun out of Digital Asset Holdings, the company best known for building Daml, an enterprise smart contract language originally pitched to Wall Street post-2015. Canton launched as a 'network of networks' targeting capital markets infrastructure — processing $6T+ in tokenized assets — and has progressively layered in embedded finance primitives including stablecoin payments, on-chain payroll, institutional lending, and crypto custody. The embedded finance angle is specifically about replacing fiat rails with programmable, privacy-preserving on-chain settlement for regulated institutions, not consumer retail.
