Banco Carrefour

Can Brazil's only retailer-owned bank turn its visibility into merchant supply purchases at Atacadão into a defensible B2B credit franchise beyond consumer co-branded cards?

The story

Banco Carrefour is the financial arm of Grupo Carrefour Brasil (51% Carrefour, minority stake by Itaú Unibanco), positioned as the largest 'Fintail' in Brazil and the only Brazilian retailer with a wholly controlled multi-service bank. Historically a private-label / co-branded credit card issuer for Carrefour, Atacadão and Sam's Club, it is now diversifying beyond consumer credit into B2B credit — receivables anticipation for marketplace sellers and Atacadão wholesale customers, plus a planned PJ (business) credit card — leveraging its visibility into merchant purchases from Atacadão as a proprietary credit signal.
