The story

Founded in 2009 as a challenger bank targeting underserved UK SMEs and individuals, Aldermore built a niche around specialist mortgages, savings accounts, invoice finance and asset-based lending. It IPO'd in 2015 and was subsequently acquired by South Africa's FirstRand Group in 2018, which took it private. It has continued to operate as a specialist bank under Ruffler Bank PLC, focusing on bridging finance, invoice discounting, and SME lending rather than pivoting into consumer fintech.
