“Can a Uganda-based mobile money aggregator become the unified payments infrastructure layer connecting all mobile money providers and financial institutions across Africa?”
Founded in 2006 as a software and IT company, Yo-Uganda pivoted to become Uganda's leading mobile money aggregation infrastructure provider, launching Yo! Payments to allow businesses to collect and disburse funds across all Ugandan mobile money networks (MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money) via API, USSD, SMS and IVR. The company secured a Payment System Operator License from the Bank of Uganda in 2021, formalizing its role as regulated payments infrastructure. Its ambition is to interconnect all mobile money providers and financial institutions worldwide into a single payments rail accessible via a single API.
