Xago

Can a stablecoin-powered cross-border settlement platform become the institutional liquidity backbone for fiat on/off-ramps across Africa and emerging market corridors?

The story

Founded in 2016 as a South African crypto asset gateway and exchange, Xago evolved into a stablecoin-powered cross-border payments platform serving businesses and individuals. Rather than remaining a retail crypto exchange, the company leaned into institutional-grade infrastructure for real-time FX settlement across African corridors, using stablecoins pegged 1:1 to fiat currencies as settlement rails. By 2025 it was positioning itself as a wholesale liquidity provider for financial institutions, SMMEs, and forex providers across the continent, with EU-corridor partnerships (NGPES) extending its reach into Europe.
