“Can a crypto-native, politically-branded stablecoin issuer become a chartered US trust bank and the payments infrastructure layer for both AI agents and cross-border remittance?”
World Liberty Financial launched in 2024 as a Trump-family-associated DeFi venture with the WLFI governance token, then expanded into stablecoin issuance with USD1 (issued via BitGo). The strategy has since broadened aggressively along multiple embedded-finance vectors: WLFI Markets for lending (via Dolomite), World Swap for FX/remittance, an AgentPay SDK for AI-agent payments, and — most notably — a January 2026 application for a US national trust bank charter (World Liberty Trust Company), conditionally approved by the OCC in August 2026. The company is positioning as a DeFi-TradFi bridge with its own bank charter to custody USD1 reserves.
