Can a thin, compliance-wrapped embedded-finance layer over licensed EMIs out-compete heavyweight BaaS by making accounts and cards trivially embeddable in B2B SaaS?

The story

Weavr launched in 2018 as a 'Plug-and-Play Finance' alternative to traditional BaaS, targeting B2B SaaS platforms that want embedded accounts, cards, and payments without integrating directly with banks or EMIs. The model is intermediated: Weavr operates the Weavr.io platform on top of regulated Payment Services Providers (notably Paynetics AD in the EU, where Weavr Europe is a registered agent). Post-2022 Series A the company has leaned into vertical templates (expense management, employee benefits, AP, procurement, accounting platforms) and added an 'Embedded Finance Cloud' distribution layer for banks/EMIs themselves.
