Sterling Bank

Can a mid-size Nigerian commercial bank become the default BaaS rail for Nigeria's fintech ecosystem?

The story

Sterling has evolved from investment bank (NAL Bank, 1960) into a full-service Nigerian commercial bank via two mergers (2006, 2012). More recently the group re-organised under Sterling Financial Holdings, spinning up The Alternative Bank (non-interest) and SterlingFI (asset mgmt). Its current strategic bet is embedded finance: replacing its legacy core with SeaBaaS (locally-built, cloud-native, API-first) and launching Embedly + sPay to expose wallets, payouts, card issuance and KYC APIs to Nigerian fintechs and platforms.
