The story

Launched in 2015 as a mobile-first marketplace under Sea Limited, Shopee quickly scaled across Southeast Asia by heavily subsidizing logistics and payments. From 2017 onward, ShopeePay became the central embedded finance hub — starting as a checkout wallet and evolving into a full digital wallet, BNPL (SPayLater), seller loans (SLoan), and card products. By 2025, Sea's digital financial services arm Monee became the vehicle for expanding beyond the marketplace into standalone financial products, including physical debit/credit cards backed by Episode Six infrastructure.
