The story

Originally the tax division of a California community bank, TPG was carved out in 2010 as a standalone tax-related financial products company. After Green Dot acquired it in 2014, TPG became the embedded tax-finance arm of Green Dot's ecosystem, leveraging Green Dot Bank as its banking backbone for refund transfers, prepaid disbursements, and advances. TPG's core model is B2B2C: it sells refund transfer infrastructure and advance products to tax preparers (EROs, software providers, franchises), who then offer those products to end taxpayers.
