Founded in 2015 as a transactional marketplace for buying and selling tenant-occupied single-family rentals, Roofstock evolved into a full-stack SFR platform through acquisitions of Stessa (landlord software), RentPrep (tenant screening), and the 2024 merger with Mynd (institutional property management). The embedded finance angle emerged through Stessa, which launched embedded banking (rent collection, expense management, high-yield accounts) with Unit in partnership with a sponsor bank — turning a free landlord SaaS into a financial services distribution channel claiming 4x customer LTV uplift. Roofstock is increasingly positioned as the operational and financial OS for residential rental investors, both individual and institutional.
